The Wine

The wine boasts ample aromas of sun‑warmed strawberries, pomegranates and red cherries, all edged by dried rose petals and a faint hint of white pepper.

On the palate, the wine is both silken and energetic, displaying the character of Mathis Vineyard's signature ripe red fruits layered over savory herbs (Thyme, bay leaf, tart sassafras) and earthy sandstone.

The tannins are fine and lightly grippy, more textural than assertive, providing a gentle foundation for the fruit. The finish is long and lingering, featuring red currant, warm earth, and a flicker of spice - the marriage of Mediterranean and Sonoma Valley Grenache styles!

Pairings: Focus on Mediterranean foods like roasted vegetables with Herbs de Provence, grilled or slow-roasted meats such as this Dead Easy recipe from our Chef's Corner, dishes featuring tomatoes (don't worry, Grenache can take the acidity), and anything smoked. Cheese pairings - the star would be Sheep's Milk cheeses, aged Manchego, Tomme-style and washed rind cheeses.

The Winery

Grenachista is a small producer focused on all things Grenache, based on the simple belief that Grenache deserves center stage.

Founded by winemaker and self‑proclaimed “Grenache evangelist” Casey Graybehl, the label champions the grape in all its expressions - still, sparkling, rosé, and 'experimental'.

The Mathis Vineyard in Sonoma Valley is one of the crown jewels of the portfolio, a meticulously farmed, low‑yielding site planted to Grenache along with small amounts of Rhône companions. Its warm exposures and rocky soils produce fruit with both generosity and lift, giving The Grenachista a canvas for wines that are bright, aromatic and Grenache‑driven.

The winemaking is intentionally restrained—native fermentations, gentle extraction, and minimal new oak—allowing the vineyard’s red‑fruited charm and savory undertones to shine. The result is a collection of wines that feel handcrafted, expressive and deeply rooted in place, with the Mathis Vineyard bottling standing as one of the purest articulations of the house style.
