The Wine
Like all the wines made by Covenant, this one is native-yeast-fermented and then aged in French oak. Lake County is fast becoming known as one of California’s best terroirs for robust red grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. This wine clearly shows its varietal pedigree highlighted by the local terra rosa soils, warm days and cool nights.
The Tribe Cabernet Sauvignon is layered with classic herb and licorice notes framing a core of cassis and huckleberry flavors. Tannins are smooth and silky, making this an easy drinking wine that still holds enough complexity for wine aficionados anywhere. A great wine that just happens to be Kosher.
The Winery
In 2003, Covenant founders Jeff Morgan and Leslie Rudd were inspired to bring a new California perspective to a 3500-year-old winemaking tradition. What started as a 500-case Napa Cabernet Sauvignon project has now grown more than ten-fold. Today, Covenant’s 9,000-square-foot urban Northern California winery is situated in Berkeley, California.
The winery got its start in Napa Valley but now located in the urban “Drinks District” of Berkeley, California. The 9,000-square foot winery is situated in a neighborhood that is also home to other urban wineries and breweries. From the start, Covenant was critically acclaimed by such reviewers as Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate and Wine Spectator.
