The Wine
Xinomavro (ZHEE no MAHV doh) is the most common grape behind the red wines of Greece. This wine is a structured, aromatic version with notes of dried cherry, tomato leaf, spice, and earthy tannin. Firm yet lifted, with savory depth and long, evolving complexity.
Pairing: This wine calls for dishes with bold flavors - Lamb shank, roasted mushrooms, and tomato‑based dishes.
The Winery
Vaeni is one of Greece’s most important cooperatives, founded in 1984 to preserve small family vineyards in Naoussa.
Many growers participating in this co-op are multigenerational farmers working tiny hillside plots not large enough to produce a significant quantity on their own. The co‑op provides the resources needed to produce long‑lived, traditional Xinomavro.
Vaeni's Grande Reserve program highlights old vines and extended aging — a nod to the region’s heritage and a safeguard for its future.
