The Wine

This wine is primarily Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) with a small portion of Merlot.

Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures, followed by malolactic fermentation before aging for a five years in a mix of French and American oak barrels of varying sizes and ages - a regimen that gives the wine its '5 Ano' name.

The profile is full‑bodied and structured, showing dark cherry, plum, cedar, vanilla, dried rose, blackcurrant, dark chocolate, dried herbs, spice, and mineral complexity . The palate is powerful yet refined, with firm tannins, medium acidity, and a long, persistent finish shaped by its extended élevage . The overall impression is dense, elegant, and unmistakably Vega Sicilia.

Pairings: This wine pairs well with roast suckling pig, venison stew, lamb dishes, and aged Manchego . Its structure and depth complement rich, savory preparations.

The Winery

Founded in 1864, Vega Sicilia is one of Spain’s most historic and prestigious estates, located in Ribera del Duero at roughly 720–930 meters of altitude .

The winery is known for meticulous vineyard work, patient cellar aging, and a philosophy centered on time and tradition. Valbuena 5 Año reflects this approach, resulting in a wine of depth, structure, and longevity. It is one of the estate’s most recognizable expressions of Tinto Fino and a benchmark for Ribera del Duero.
