The Wine

A modern Uruguayan take on the grape whose very name is derived from "Tannin"! This version emphasizes freshness over tannic, inky, power.

It still shows the grapes iconic deep purple color and aromatics of cherry, raspberry, blackberry, and blackcurrant, with subtle earth, cocoa, and smoky‑meaty notes. These are all part of Uruguay's signature style, even with this more approachable, drink-me-now version of the wine.

The palate is full‑bodied but lively, with firm, well‑managed tannins and bright acidity keeps the wine energetic. The finish is long and saturated with dark fruit and spice. It’s robust yet approachable.

Pairings: Grilled meats, sausages, roasted mushrooms, and aged sheep’s milk cheeses. The wine’s structure and freshness make it especially good with smoky or savory preparations.

The Winery

Viña Progreso is the project of Gabriel Pisano, one of Uruguay’s most dynamic young winemakers. Working in Progreso, Canelones, he focuses on small‑lot, minimal‑intervention wines that highlight fruit purity and tension. His approach to Tannat emphasizes polish, vibrancy, and careful tannin management, producing wines that feel both distinctly Uruguayan and refreshingly modern. The Overground line showcases this philosophy: energetic, expressive, and crafted with precision
